The Spirit and Soul of the Jean Harris Carnival

RCG's Jean Harris Carnival (JHC) stands out as a unique sports event in Rotary District 3233, carrying a distinct "spirit, scale, and soul" that sets it apart from typical tournaments. The success of JHC Season 12 was a direct result of the exemplary planning and execution by Chairman PN Rtn Nandagopal, who took complete ownership of the project, and President Rtn Radha Krish, whose charismatic leadership ensured flawless coordination throughout the months of preparation.

The event was defined by the following unique elements:

  1. Professional Sports at Scale: While the carnival atmosphere was vibrant, the competition was substantial, featuring 10 Volleyball teams and 5 Throwball teams, with an overall participation of 90 players on the ground + substitute players. The matches were expertly scheduled, ensuring the smooth conduct of around 65 matches through the deployment of professional referees and associates.
  2. Distinguished Guests and the opening/closing ceremonies: The event commenced with a brisk march-past of the players and an enthusiastic inauguration featuring Chief Guest District Governor Rtn Devendran D and First Lady Archana Devendran. The Guest of Honour, International Basketball Player Rtn. Purushothaman, also participated, expressing his appreciation for the high level of sportsmanship and enthusiasm displayed by the teams. PP Rtn Balaji energised the guests and players with his peppy MCeeing during the inauguration and in a similar tone, Rtn. Manju cheered the winners, runners and players during the valedictory event.
  3. "RCG's Family Day": True to its reputation as a family-centric gala, the event saw an overall attendance of 200+ members, Anns, and Annettes (attendance count provided in your query). The atmosphere was "electric," with cheerleaders, drummers, DJs and Silambam artists keeping participants engaged between matches.
  4. Commitment to the spirit of JHC was demonstrated by RCGians taking ownership of the teams by providing monetary support as well as leadership throughout. Equally so, several RCGians, Rotarians from the DIstrict and many Corporate supporters sponsored financially and in kind generously.
  5. Tournament Winners and Runners: The intense competition resulted in the following victories:
  6. Volleyball Winners: Rtn. Mothish Kumar's Airport Plot Parandur.
  7. Volleyball Runners: Rtn. Shankar's Kabali Super Kings.
  8. Throwball Winners: Rtn Prabhoo NM and Rtn Karthik V's NNM Leaf Attackers.
  9. Throwball Runners: Rtn. Ananthasainan Seshan's Sigma Power.
  10. Exceptional Hospitality: A hallmark of the JHC is its hospitality, featuring home-cooked dishes prepared by Lady Rotarians and Anns. Popular refreshment stalls serving Elaneer (tender coconut), fruits, coffee, soda and buttermilk ensured attendees were well-catered to throughout the day.
  11. Professional Execution and Safety: The event was supported by an AV team for live digital scores and advertisements, adding a professional touch. On-ground safety was managed by the Synergy team led by Suresh Franklin, providing essential physio and first-aid support. The Scoring Team, consisting of Rotarians: PP Ramesh Babu, PP Sridhar V, PE Prabhoo N M, Venkatesh Gupta, Sriram H, Karthik V, and Madhan, ensured the data recording for the numerous matches went "smooth as butter".
  12. Dedicated Teamwork: This massive undertaking was made possible by a hard-working team including Rotarians CLF Sathish, Muthu Kannan, PP Ramesh Babu, IPP Shankar V, Balaji, Srikanth, Jt Secretary Saravanan, Sridharan, PI Chair Rafeek, Club Service Director Jemima, Anuradha, Manju, Uvais and Anns: Raji Bala Chandar and Vaishnavi Shankar. The core committee also received incredible support from DRFC Rtn Neelakantan and Rtn Kathir.
  13. Upkeep of RCG's tradition of gratitude: Every member, every Ann who contributed the potluck lunch, Rotaractors and every other supporter was thanked by handing over goodies which was acknowledged as "thoughtful" by everyone.

JHC Season 12 turned into more than just an event; it became an "emotion" and a "gala ceremony" cherished by the entire Rotary fraternity.
