Beyond the GOV: RCG’s Unfiltered Night of Insight and Impact

Defying the usual trend of experiencing a lull in energy following the Governor’s Official Visit , RCG went on with three hours of high-spirited "dhamaka" during the Weekly/Power Speaker Meeting on the 6th May. The atmosphere was so electric that nearly half the crowd remained long past the usual 10:00 PM departure time, reflecting a vibrant culture of unfiltered political discussion, laughter, and deep fellowship. This surge in momentum was fuelled by a diverse agenda that balanced administrative milestones with genuine human connection.

The evening featured significant Foundation activities, including TRF announcements and prestigious pin recognitions. President Radha Krish, IPP Rtn Shankar and Secretary Rtn Venkatesh K V were recognised with PHF+ pins. We were particularly delighted to welcome two new prospects, Janani and Dhanaraj, and witnessed the active participation of our Honorary Member, Rtn. Thomas Dose. In a gesture of regional goodwill, a formal flag exchange was conducted with Rtn. Jerolin Lisbon Singh of the Rotary Club Yarn City, Nagercoil (District 3212). Adding a personal touch to the night’s fellowship, following a presentation of a beautifully compiled AV on our recently concluded International Trip to Bentota-Sri Lanka (by none other than our Creative genius Rtn. Rafeek), Ann Hima Bindu Punithan shared a vivid and encouraging feedback regarding her maiden International Trip, allowing the participants to relive cherished memories.

The intellectual highlight was the "Power Speaker" session titled "Elections Known and the Unknown" delivered by Dr. Rajarathinam Kannan, a former UN Senior Political Officer and renowned International Affairs Expert. Aligning with our theme, "The Slight Edge," Dr. Kannan masterfully analysed recent electoral shifts with bold candour and poise. He argued that lasting success in governance comes from small, consistent choices that remain connected to the daily needs and aspirations of the youth. His insights prompted deep reflection on why established parties face setbacks when they disconnect from public concerns and how new leadership must prioritize clear planning and collaboration to succeed.

Ultimately, the session resonated with Rotary’s core pillars of peacebuilding and community development. By debunking divisive myths and advocating for dialogue to bridge regional power conflicts, Dr. Kannan provided a roadmap for unity and progress. The evening, capped off by an energetic musical performance by our Singer superstar Rtn Kandavel, served as a powerful reminder that when we combine intellectual enrichment with soulful fellowship, the "Slight Edge" becomes a significant leap forward for our club.

Consistency in connection creates the slight edge for a unified future.
