Celebrating Extraordinary Women – Rotary Club of Guindy’s International Women’s Day Celebration

“நிமிர்ந்த நன்னடை, நேர்கொண்ட பார்வை, நிலத்தில் யார்க்கும் அஞ்சாத நெறிகள் — நெருப்பாய் பெண்கள் எழுந்திடும் நாளிது.” With these powerful lines setting the tone, the Rotary Club of Guindy celebrated International Women’s Day with a memorable and grand event honouring women who embody courage, resilience, and inspiration.

What began as a simple idea transformed into a beautifully executed celebration attended by over 80 Rotarians, Anns, Co-Presidents, and distinguished guests. The event was led by Event Chair Jaffar, whose meticulous planning ensured that every detail fell into place. Dharmaraj extended strong support at the venue, while Awards Chairman PP Venugopal curated the recognitions, crafted meaningful citations, and coordinated seamlessly to complete the club’s seventh award presentation.

The evening honoured three remarkable women: Ms. Shenaz Rehman – renowned woman body builder; Smt. Meera Haran – a celebrated and inspiring mother; and Dr. Vasudha Prakash – social entrepreneur, psychotherapist, and educator. Their journeys and achievements deeply moved the audience and reflected the true spirit of women’s empowerment.

The presence of the District Governor Rtn Devendran and the District First Lady Archana Devendran added significance to the occasion. Thankful to the visiting Presidents and Secretaries from other Clubs for their enthusiastic participation. The event also embraced inclusivity with the special appearance of transgender model Apsara. A highlight of the evening was the engaging and humorous address by Arul Prakash-a celebrity Tamil orator, who kept the audience captivated throughout.

The programme was enriched by the collective efforts of many members. PI Chair Rtn. Rafeek’s promotional videos and photographs beautifully captured the event, CS Director Rtn. Jemima’s thoughtfully curated menu was widely appreciated, and CSHD Rtn. Sriraman’s delightful lunchbox gifts brought smiles to everyone. Sponsors Rtn. Meiyappan and Rtn. Mathivanan contributed thoughtful gifts to the women of RCG. Super Singer Title Winner Sai Sharan’s (s/o Awardee Smt. Meera) soulful medley performance added a divine musical touch to the evening.

Rtn. Manju, Ann Raji, and Jt. Secretary/PND Rtn. Saravanan ensured smooth coordination and timely presentation of honours to dignitaries and awardees. Emcee Rtn. Dr. Ramya stepped in at short notice and anchored the programme with confidence and grace. Special appreciation goes to Ann Sulekha (Jaffer) for personally inviting the Anns and to Ann Raji for her dedicated follow-ups.

The thoughtful selection of awardees, especially the recognition of Smt. Meera Haran’s inspiring journey, received heartfelt appreciation from attendees and the wider community, reinforcing the club’s commitment to celebrating true and often unsung heroes.

The evening reaffirmed that Rotary Club of Guindy is more than a club—it is a family that celebrates excellence, uplifts inspiring stories, and creates meaningful impact together.
